Michelle Obama Interviews Michele Norris for New Podcast

Norris became the 1st African-American female host at NPR in 2002, when she joined All Factors Considered, and stayed there until finally she stepped down in 2013, as her husband Broderick Johnson grew to become the White Dwelling Cupboard secretary for the Obama administration. Norris joined the Washington Post as an impression columnist in 2019. She also was a visitor on Obama’s stadium-sized reserve tour for her bestselling memoir Turning out to be.

Norris grew up in a community just blocks from thirty eighth and Chicago, exactly where Floyd was killed. Her memoir that she revealed in 2010, The Grace of Silence, recounts her upbringing in Minneapolis and familial legacy, tracing her ancestry to the Deep South, and she writes about her father’s capturing by a Birmingham police officer and her grandmother’s work performing as an “itinerant Aunt Jemima” marketing pancake mix for Quaker Oats.

In the dialogue, she also talked about the wave of protests adhering to the murder of George Floyd.

Obama: That’s your hometown.

Though performing at ABC Information, she gained an Emmy and Peabody Award for her 9/11 coverage. Today, she works from Washington D.C.

The two also discussed how the pandemic has adjusted each individual of them and their outlook on the planet, and what this second in background means.

“We are all likely by means of a sizeable time period of evolution, and it means, that there is an opportunity in that, it feels burdensome correct now, simply because so significantly has been taken from us. But there is this kind of an incredible opportunity, to determine how you want to present up in the new planet. Mainly because it will be a new planet. And my best hope is that we you should not get to for standard, that we get to for greater,” Norris says.
