Various types of hats are worn by people. A hat can tell you a lot about the wearer, from a simple straw lifeguard hat to sun visors and designer caps. Most people will tell you why they wear their hat if you ask them about it. Many people who belong to a specific group, club, or team want their headwear to reflect their membership.
However, there may be more to it than you think. According to me, there are three major reasons for wearing a particular hat such as bucket hats. This may only be one or some combination of these three factors: protection, affiliation, and style.
Protecting the head with hats
In the event of exposure to the elements (sun, heat, rain, and cold), a hat can be worn to protect the ears, neck, face, and top of the head. A lot of people are advised by their doctors to wear a sun protection hat. The wearer will be protected from the sun and wind with a good hat. The best choice unless you need to travel by plane is a straw hat with a wide brim. When traveling, a wide-brim hat with a crushable brim is a good choice.
Hats of Affiliation
When people belong to a particular group, club, or team, they often want their headwear to identify that affiliation. Team sport hats are a good example. As well as hats related to fishing, boating, and sailing, car-related hats, golf and tennis visors, as well as many other activities in which your headgear can identify or classify you. People often wear waders to indoor fishing shows. By wearing their hats or other apparel, people show their affiliation sincerely.
Hats for the military
Military style hats are a specialized category within affiliation hats. There are camouflage back flaps and army boonies, as well as the classic captain’s cap. It is the only type of hat that indicates an affiliation to a group more than military hats.
Cadet style hats are a good example of this. There is a small bill and they are distressed. The fashion conscious love them since they provide a minimum level of protection. The decorative sun visor is another example of headwear that is more about style than function.
Several reasons to wear hats
Hats are sometimes worn for more than one reason. The cowboy style hat offers good protection, can be very fashionable, and in most cases is a symbol of affiliation. Another example would be floating hats. Originally designed for boating and use on water, they have become a very popular fashion trend. Next time you wear a hat, think about all the reasons or just wear it and let others wonder why.
