There are many towns and places of interest to visit including, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Province, birthplace of Nelson Mandela, famous for being the first black President and anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader.  Born on the eighteenth of July 1918 he rose to power andserved as President from 1994 to 1999.  His government was focused on the dismantling of apartheid and tackling the common problem of racism, also keen to foster racial reconciliation and peace between the black and white communities.  He died of respiratory infection in 2013 aged ninety-five,having survived twenty-seven years in a South African prison.

South Africa is also famous for its history and mining of diamonds, discovered in Cape Colony in 1867, a large source of diamonds radically changed the Worlds supply.  Over sixty-five percent of the World’s supply of diamonds comes from South Africa, stones that are rare and unique and very expensive.  Diamonds are mainly used to make beautiful jewellery and are especially synonymous with exquisite Diamond Engagement Rings.  Look for examples of diamond engagement rings at websites such as  These beautiful, individual tokens, representative of a couples love for one another, stand the test of time both in durability and value.  Diamonds are rare due mainly to the awesome power needed to create them, based from natural carbon, they are formed deep within the Earth’s crust.  Millions of cubic pressures needed alongside temperatures that are so extreme, nothing man made could withstand them.

South Africa has a multi-cultural, diverse population, encompassing a variety of religions, languages and cultures.  Since 1994 all ethnic groups have had a political representative, often referred to as the “Rainbow Nation” as a way of describing the diversity amongst the people.  However, poverty and inequality remain widespreadand at least a quarter of the population are unemployed.  Despite these figures South Africa is still seen as a middle power and maintains a significant influence in international affairs.
