How To Pick The Perfect Engagement Ring

Picking an engagement ring is an exciting yet nerve wracking time, you are selecting a ring that hopefully the other person will wear for the rest of their lives so it needs to be right. Some people want to completely surprise their partner and pick the ring themselves; others may get input from friends of family members to help with the decision, ultimately though it is down to you. Here we’ll take a look at a few of the different options at different prices that you can look in to.

Diamond Engagement Rings

Most high street stores will have a large selection of modern and classic engagement rings, typically with a platinum band with a single larger diamond or multiple smaller diamonds in the band. The price ranges dramatically depending upon the size and quality of the diamond, this determines the price of the ring far more than the band as the platinum band is only worth a small percentage of the cost of the overall ring. It is important to remember that whenever you buy a diamond you should make sure you get a certificate with it to show all of it’s details, this also proves it is a legitimate, legally bought diamond should it ever need to be sold or valued.

Vintage Engagement Rings

There are fewer shops that offer vintage jewellery but they have a far more interesting collection of rings with a lot more variety. If you would like to get a ring that has history and a story then vintage is the way to go. You can get anything from Art Deco engagements rings through to Roman rings, for those who like to have something a little different they really stand out and will make the perfect ring. Again with these rings the prices can vary but you can expect to pay more than at a standard jewellers with some prices going up in to six figures.

Lab Grown Diamond Rings

This is something that has really come to prominence in the last few years and suit people who want a great quality diamond at a lower price point. As is in the name, these diamonds are created artificially in a laboratory and therefore it does cause some friction with traditional jewellers and diamond dealers due to the price difference. Most jewellers will say that lab grown diamonds don’t have any resale value, the company creating them obviously disagree with this. It is all down to what your ultimate goal is, the fact is that they are diamonds and if you just want a great looking ring then they could be a great choice. If however, you want something that is definitely worth more then it might be best to go for traditional, mined diamond rings.
