Kate Garraway shares family snap on ‘bumpy’ Christmas Day after Derek health scare

Kate Garraway shared a sweet family snap on Christmas Day as she admitted that it had been a “bumpy 24 hours” after husband Derek Draper had a health scare.

Derek, 54, returned home in April after spending a year in hospital fighting for his life after contracting coronavirus last year.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Kate, 54, revealed that Derek had a “scare” during the festivities, which may have meant his return to hospital.

Posting a picture of Derek watching Nativity with their two children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12, Kate admitted that she felt so “grateful” that her family had the chance to be “together” on Christmas Day.

She penned: “So the last 24 hours has been bumpy – a scare that meant Derek might have had to go back into hospital ( thankfully sorted by a visit from nurse/carer) , he has also had one of his ultra fatigue days so has been too weak to do much other than sleep.

“I burnt the parsnips ( Darceys favourite ) & got the “wrong” Lego for Billy. But now snuggled up around Dad’s bed watching#nativity everything feels suddenly perfect.

“Feel so grateful to have the chance to be together . Sending love & hoping you have found some joy today whatever your circumstances – #merrychristmas all!”

Kate’s one million followers and celebrity friends were quick to support the star after her “bumpy 24 hours” as they rushed to the comments section to send their love.

Derek spent a year in hospital fighting for his life after contracting the virus last year, and since his return home, Good Morning Britain presenter Kate has been acting as a carer for him as he is still suffering from complications from Covid-19 after beating the virus.

Mother-of-two Kate even fronted the National Television Award-winning documentary, Finding Derek, which gave a glimpse of her family’s new way of life since Derek’s return home from the hospital.

Only recently, Kate appeared as a special guest on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, where she spoke about her husband Derek and their family.
