Man ‘sets own house on fire’ during siege

Two kids and three other folks were being taken from the Owl Drive residence whilst police started out negotiations with the person about 1am on Friday.

When patrols arrived at the home minutes earlier, the person became intense and barricaded himself in a place, injuring an officer’s hand in a doorway, police say.

In the course of the standoff, the person allegedly threw an airconditioning unit at an officer, which prompted no injuries.

The person then allegedly poured petrol and set fireplace to the entrance of the residence.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze, but not prior to it prompted injury to the entrance of the home.

STAR Team officers and negotiators were being identified as to the scene prior to three rounds were being fired at the person, who was armed, police say.

It will be alleged he also threatened to damage police.

Immediately after various hours of negotiations, the person was taken into police custody with minor injuries.

The 33-calendar year-outdated from Murray Bridge was charged with arson and two counts of assaulting a recommended emergency employee.

He was refused bail and will show up in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court docket on April 14.
