Wedding dresses can be expensive and even then, it can be fairly difficult to find the one that suits your taste perfectly. However, one bride found a crafty solution to this problem.

Recently, a Reddit post has gone viral after a bride shared a couple of images of a vintage-inspired wedding dress that she had sewn herself.

Shared by u/QueenAkemii, the pictures were submitted on the social media platform with the caption: “I made my own wedding dress!” Since it was shared, the post has already received over 27,000 upvotes and 370 comments.

The images show the original poster (OP) wearing her vintage-style wedding dress while holding a bouquet of sunflowers.

In the comment section, the OP detailed the process as well as her design choices.

“I used vintage 1970s pattern Vogue 1488. The dress took me about a month to do because I kept undo-ing and re-stitching because I wanted the dress to be absolutely perfect! I worked on it on the weekend and after work,” she shared.

“Fabric is from Joanns from their special occasion (wedding) collection and the lining is from Fabric Wholesale Direct, their satin white fabric. The belt is a iron on ribbon I got from Joanns again. Overall, I’m so glad how the dress came out and I hope that one day my future daughter will like to wear it or allow me the pleasure of making her wedding dress,” the OP added.

As expected, other Reddit users were amazed with the end product, overwhelming the comment section with praise for the bride’s handiwork.

“What a beautiful dress! What a lovely bride too,” one user commented.

“That dress came out lovely. But your facial expression is so fun! The pictures came out great,” shared another.

“Those fabrics choices are just divine! Love the texture, and weight, it gives the dress as a look that’s both elegantly refined, but somehow still breezy and playful. Paired with sunflowers—I DO! Congrats on the great result, and the big day,” wrote another supportive Reddit user.

One user was adamant that the OP needed to preserve the posted photograph, writing: “The first picture absolutely needs to be framed and placed directly above your fireplace or somewhere so that it is seen at all times.”

According to wedding publication Brides, the average cost of a wedding dress in the United States is approximately $1,800, though it can generally range anywhere from $500 to $4,000. The cost of the dress also depends on a number of factors, including the fabric, the embellishments, the design and even the alterations.

As cost-saving measures, Brides recommended considering polyester over more expensive fabrics such as lace, as well as shopping off-season to snag the best deals. The publication also noted that another good tip to save money would be shopping for “reception, bridesmaid, and event collections” and making use of “non-bridal ivory dresses and unconventional event dresses.”

This wouldn’t be the first instance of a bride making headlines. Previously, Newsweek covered a story about a newlywed couple who turned their backyard into their dream wedding venue. On another occasion, Newsweek wrote about a Texas bride who caught a 50-pound black drum fish while still wearing her wedding dress.
