Piers Morgan shares touching tribute to Kate Garraway ahead of Life Stories

Piers Morgan has issued a touching tribute to his close pal Kate Garraway as she prepared to take over hit ITV show Life Stories.

Former Good Morning Britain host Piers, 56, quit the show back in October, and shortly after it was revealed that Kate, 54, would be take over hosting duties.

Piers fronted the ITV show, which delves into famous stars’ lives, for 12 years and completed 100 shows during his stint, where he interviewed some of today’s biggest stars.

Kate was Piers’ final guest during his time on the show, with her Life Stories interview airing back in December.

The first episode of Kate Garraway’s Life Stories aired tonight, Wednesday 3 February, with former footballer John Barnes in the hot seat.

Ahead of Kate’s first show, Piers took to Twitter to pay tribute to the star and posted a sweet message wishing her good luck.

The 56 year old wrote: “‘Good luck to ⁦@kategarraway⁩ who hosts her first Life Stories show tonight. As I told Kate today, it does feel a bit weird handing over the reins of a show I presented for so long, but at least it’s to someone I love! Wish her all the very best. Airs on ITV @ 9pm.”

The stars taking part in Kate’s Life Stories were recently unveiled, with John, Charlotte Church, and Nadiya Hussain being the first three stars to be interviewed by the GMB host.

Ahead of her first show, Kate wrote on social media: “So proud @officialbarnesy will be my first guest on @itv #LifeStories tomorrow.

“He is so open & honest about the extraordinary highs & lows of his life & legendary career. And shares a fascinating insight into the footballing world. Can’t wait for u to see it!”

Piers announced he’d quit the show on social media back in October 2021, and was more than happy that his close pal Kate was taking over his hosting gig.

He tweeted at the time: “BREAKING NEWS: I’m quitting Life Stories after 12 years and 100 shows.

“My final one will be with ⁦my fabulous friend @kategarraway and she will then present the remaining 3 planned shows of the next series as I leave ITV to host my new global daily show. It’s been a blast!”

At the time, an ITV spokesperson said: “Piers and ITV have agreed that his interview with Kate Garraway for Piers Morgan’s Life Stories will be his last; and that Kate will take over the baton on his behalf for the remaining three episodes of the forthcoming series.

“We would like to thank Piers for over a hundred engaging, compelling and insightful Life Stories over the past 12 years where his interviewees have included the very best names in showbiz, business and politics.

“We wish him the very best of luck with all of his future ventures.”

They also added: “Kate is a brilliant journalist and inquisitive interviewer and we look forward to her forthcoming three shows.”

Kate Garraway’s Life Stories airs on Thursday 3 February at 9pm.
